Maths work

Why 0.8, 8/10, 80/100, 80% and ⅘ all have the same value.

In the picture below I have shaded 80 out 100 of the spaces.

Another way of writing that is 80/100.





































































































In this picture I have divided it into 10 rows or tenths. Now 8 out of 10 or 8/10 are coloured, which is the same as the 80/100.






































































































In this picture I have divided the 100 squares into  groups or fifths.
I have coloured 4 out of 5 columns or  ⅘, which as you can see is
the same size as 80/100.







































































































Now percentage and decimals,
It is the same as the first picture because
I have coloured 8 tenths or 8/10
we know that there is 8 in the tenths row, or 0.8.
Percent means out of 100 so 80/100 = 80%
